Taekwon-Do for whom?
Taekwon-Do for whom?
Taekwon‑Do is good for the body and soul. Tiger Taekwon‑Do offers many things that other martial arts do and more. The important thing is for students to be under the instruction of a qualified instructor with a proven history. Welcome to Tiger Taekwon‑Do.
Children
If you live in Palmerston North and you seek an activity for your children, then Tiger Taekwon‑Do is ideal. Most forms of physical activity have the potential to produce benefits for children, both physical and behavioural. International Taekwon‑Do goes one step further and reinforces the positive behaviours taught at home and school.
Benefits of Taekwon-Do for Childrenx
The potential benefits to children include improved confidence, self‑esteem, self‑discipline, focus, manners, and behaviour generally. Children often fare better at school and at home.
The culture of International Taekwon‑Do reinforces universal family values such as respect, trust, and honesty. It is important to us that children respect their parents; usually parents find new reasons to respect their children too.
These benefits accrue because International Taekwon‑Do is more than just kicking and punching. We encourage our students to live by the Tenets of Taekwon‑Do:
- Courtesy
- Integrity
- Perseverance
- Self control
- Indomitable spirit
Child appropriate self defence
Self‑defence is as much an attitude that we carry with us on a daily basis, as well as the actual physical techniques. As early as our four‑ to six‑year‑old children in the Kubz programme, we teach basic self‑defence attitudes that allow them to avoid conflict. When they move into older classes like Mini Kids and Juniors Plus, they gradually learn how to talk their way out of tricky situations.
When negotiation fails and a physical response is unavoidable, your child will learn simple techniques to help keep themselves safe while managing the consequences that may follow
To understand where these self-defence skills come from, you can visit the International Taekwon-Do Federation itftkd.sport
Youth and Adults
Youth and adults often seek different things than children and families. International Taekwon‑Do can satisfy your needs.
What do you need?
People start martial arts for different reasons. Some are fascinated by martial arts and want to learn one. Some see the importance of learning self‑defence in today’s uncertain world. Many seek a different kind of sport—something exciting, challenging, dynamic, and just a bit physical. Some want a more interesting and fun way to get fit.
Benefits for youth and adults
The benefits of International Taekwon-Do are numerous and varied. Physical benefits include improved fitness, mobility, strength and power. There is also the ability to do some really cool things with your body.
Students can experience improvements in their confidence, humility, and focus. The feeling one gets from a hard training session is very satisfying.

One of the great things about martial arts is the ability to measure progress in many ways. The most obvious is by rank. Students start at white belt and progress through 10 grades to 1st degree black belt. Then things get really exciting, through nine degrees of black belt to Grand Master!
Families
If you live in the Palmerston North area and seek an activity for families, Tiger Taekwon‑Do is ideal for you.
Families training together
It is common for family groups to start with just the children. A parent brings their six- or seven‑year‑old to class and watches while their child trains. After a while, they too may decide to give it a go, and before long the whole family is involved.
It’s great to find a physical activity the family can do together. Each member can progress at their own pace, or remain on the same grade. Our Kubz, Mini Kids, and Juniors Plus programmes are flexible and allow families to train together. As long as you achieve your goals and enjoy your training, we are happy.
