Feeling Intimidated to Walk In?
It happens more often than you might think.
A parent loves the idea of martial arts for their child. They want their son or daughter to grow in confidence, learn focus, and develop life skills that last forever. Some parents even think, “Maybe I could join in too and make it something we do together.”
Then they arrive at the gym door. New place. New faces. Strange equipment. People are moving in ways they’ve never seen before.
And suddenly a quiet question appears in their mind: “What actually happens in there?”
It can feel easier to turn around and say, “Maybe next time.” Then head home and put Netflix on instead.
That moment is exactly why this beginner’s class exists.
I believe the first step into Taekwon-Do should feel welcoming, not intimidating. It should feel manageable. Even a little fun.
And for families, it should feel like something you can explore together, not something you are thrown into with no idea what to expect.
So I created a beginner’s class designed especially for first-timers.
There is no experience required. There is no judgement. And there is no pressure to be perfect.
Some parents step onto the floor beside their tamariki and give it a go. Others watch from the side and enjoy seeing their children laugh their way through their first punches and kicks.
Something special often happens in that moment.
A shy child takes their first step onto the training floor. A hesitant parent decides to try one technique. And suddenly it becomes more than just an activity.
It becomes the start of something new for the whole family.
In a beginner’s class, everyone is learning together. There is no pecking order and no feeling that everyone is watching you. Just people taking their first steps side by side.
So here is a simple question.
Instead of another unused gym membership, what if your family tried something different?
What if you replaced pressure with play, progress, and partnership?
What if this year brought a little more confidence, connection, and courage into your household?
If that sounds like something your whānau has been quietly hoping for, our Free Beginners’ Taekwon-Do Classes are now open.
They are judgement-free. They are cost-free. And they might be one of the best things your family tries this year.

A Gentle Way to Try Martial Arts for the First Time
This year, skip the gym membership.
Give your family a white belt instead.
Trying something new can feel daunting. Walking into a martial arts class for the first time can feel even bigger.
New room. New people. Everyone in uniforms.
For many families, that moment at the door is enough to make them pause.
Then they quietly turn around and head home.
I understand that feeling very well. My first Taekwon-Do class was 53 years ago, and I still remember it clearly.
Nervous. Curious. Unsure.
Starting something new often feels like that.
That is exactly why these Free Beginners’ Classes exist.

That Moment at the Door
Many parents love the idea of martial arts for their children.
Confidence. Focus. Respect.
Some even imagine doing it together as a family.
But then comes that moment. You arrive at the gyml. You open the door. You wonder what happens next.
What if everyone already knows what they are doing? What if my child feels awkward? What if I do?
Those thoughts are completely normal, which is why these classes are different.
Everyone starts, learns, and feels like a beginner together.
Why These Classes Work
Most people who think about learning a martial art never actually start.
They wait until they feel fitter. They wait until they have more time. They wait until they feel ready, but readiness rarely arrives on its own.
Every black belt began exactly the same way. As a beginner. A little nervous, curious, and willing to try.
That first step changes everything.
What You Will Experience
These four classes gently introduce the basics of Taekwon-Do.
You will learn simple movements. You will explore safe self-defence. You will begin building confidence.
The focus is not on competition or toughness. The focus is on learning.
Each session builds a little more understanding, confidence, and enjoyment.
Before long, many students realise something surprising. They can do this.
Do You Need to Be Fit First?
No.
This is one of the biggest myths about Taekwon-Do. You do not need to get fit before starting. You start first, and the fitness grows naturally. Slowly, confidence grows as well.
These Classes Are Perfect If…
- You have never tried martial arts before.
- You feel unsure about stepping into a class.
- You worry about looking awkward or uncoordinated.
- You are not sure whether your child will enjoy it.
- You want to try something new as a family.
Many people feel the same way before their first class. Walking through the door is often the hardest step.

Why I Created These Classes
My name is Mike Lowe, and I am a 6th Degree Black Belt in Taekwon-Do.
After more than 40 years, I have seen countless numbers of students grow in confidence, skill, and self-belief through Taekwon-Do.
I have also seen many people miss out because they felt too intimidated to begin, which is why these beginner-only classes were created.
There are no experienced students to compare yourself with, and no pressure to commit long-term. There are no expectations beyond simply giving it a go — just families exploring something new together.
Your Risk-Free Invitation
You are welcome to attend all four classes and simply see how it feels.
If you decide it is not for you, that is perfectly fine.
No cost. No pressure. No obligation. Just a chance to try.
Why Spaces Are Limited
We keep these classes small on purpose; it helps everyone feel comfortable.
Small groups mean better coaching, more personal attention, and a relaxed environment for beginners.
Once the class fills, the next opportunity may be several weeks away.

Ready to Try Something New?
Show up in comfortable exercise clothes. Bring your curiosity. Bring your child if you wish. Then simply give it a go.
The real question is not whether you’re ready for Taekwon-Do, but what might happen if you tried?
When School Holidays Turn Into Screen Holidays
School holidays arrive with good intentions. You imagine bike rides, fresh air, maybe a few family adventures.
Then something else happens. Quietly, the screens take over. One child is scrolling TikTok.
One is watching YouTube. One is deep inside a game. Everyone is entertained, and no one is really together.
Sound familiar? Many families experience the same thing. The holidays begin with plans for connection, activity, and a bit of fun. A few days later, the house feels more like a Wi-Fi lounge.
Kids in separate rooms. Parents are wondering what happened. Everyone is disappearing into their own digital world.
So here’s a different idea. What if you replaced screen time with team time? Not another activity where you sit on the sideline watching, but something you could actually do together.
That is exactly why we created our Free Beginners’ Taekwon-Do Classes.
Instead of separate hobbies, families share the same journey. The same white belt. The same movements and small wins.
Then something interesting begins to happen. Children put aside their screens. Parents start laughing, and families begin feeling like teams again.
A Simple Holiday Reset
These beginner classes are designed for families who want to try something active, positive, and genuinely fun together.
Experience is not required. There is no pressure to be perfect, just a welcoming place to step onto the floor and give it a go.
Sometimes the best way to break the screen-time cycle is as simple as replacing it with something better.

Free Beginners’ Taekwon-Do Classes
School holidays arrive with good intentions. You imagine family outings, fresh air, maybe a few adventures. Then, halfway through the break, you look around the house.
One child is on TikTok. Another is watching YouTube. Someone else is deep in a game. Everyone is quiet. Everyone is entertained but no one is really together.
Many families know that feeling. You’re all in the same house, yet somehow everyone disappears into their own digital corner.
So here is a simple question. What if you tried something different these holidays?
A Family Activity That Everyone Can Do
Most activities for children follow the same pattern. You drive across town. You sit on the sideline while they do the activity.
Taekwon-Do can be different. Sometimes parents train beside their children, and sometimes they watch proudly from the side.
Either way, something interesting begins to happen. You are all part of the same journey. The same white belt. The same movements and small victories, one step at a time.

The Power of Shared Progress
Something changes when families train together. Children try harder, parents laugh more, and confidence grows quietly.
Soon, the conversation at home sounds different.
“How did your kick go today?”
“Did you get that turn right?”
“Let’s practise that move again.”
Progress becomes something everyone shares. Shared belts. Shared effort and success.
Suddenly, you are not just a family living in the same house. You feel like a team.
